Nilsiä

Nilsiä is a former Finnish municipality, incorporated into the city of Kuopio since 2013, located in the North Savo region. It is best known for its proximity to Tahko, a year-round resort popular for its alpine ski slopes, hiking trails and water sports on Lake Syväri. The surrounding landscape, typical of central Finland, combines coniferous forests, lakes and gentle hills, providing an ideal setting for nature-based stays throughout the year. In winter, the area draws skiing, snowmobiling and traditional lakeside sauna enthusiasts, while summer favours fishing, canoeing and forest walks. Nilsiä retains a quiet, rural character, with a handful of local shops and everyday services. The town serves as a convenient base for exploring the wide open spaces of North Savo, away from urban bustle.
