Kaavi

Kaavi is a rural municipality in the North Savo region of Finland, around 50 kilometres from Kuopio. The landscape is typical of Finland's lake district, with numerous lakes, forests and protected natural areas. The Vaarunvuoret Nature Reserve is one of the area's main attractions, featuring granite cliffs and hiking trails with views over the surrounding countryside, as well as glacial giant's kettles (hiidenkirnut) shaped by erosion. The historic Jyrkkä Ironworks village, founded in the late 18th century beside river rapids, reflects the region's industrial past and is now a protected heritage site. Kaavi offers outdoor activities throughout the year: hiking and swimming in summer, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and ice fishing in winter.
