Kittilä

Kittilä is a municipality in Finnish Lapland, in the north of the country, best known as home to Levi, one of Finland's most popular ski resorts. The area is characterised by vast boreal forests, rounded hills known as fells, and a subarctic climate with long, snowy winters well suited to alpine and cross-country skiing, husky sledding and snowmobile safaris. The polar nights create favourable conditions for viewing the Northern Lights between September and March, while summer brings the midnight sun and exceptionally long days, ideal for hiking and fishing. Kittilä has a regional airport that makes access easier for visitors, particularly during the winter season. Sámi culture has a presence in the region, with traditions linked to reindeer herding still practised locally. The municipality remains sparsely populated, offering an unspoilt natural setting of lakes, rivers and wilderness typical of Finnish Lapland, well away from urban bustle.
