Akaslompolo

Akaslompolo is a village in the municipality of Kolari, in Finnish Lapland, nestled at the foot of Mount Ylläs, one of the country's highest fells and the centre of one of Finland's largest ski resorts. The village serves as an excellent base for exploring Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park, known for its Arctic tundra scenery and extensive network of trails. In winter, the area draws visitors for downhill and cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and northern lights viewing, aided by long hours of darkness and minimal light pollution. In summer, the midnight sun allows for extended days of hiking, fishing, and cycling amid boreal forests and lakes. The climate is typically subarctic, with long, harsh winters and short but bright summers. Akaslompolo offers well-developed tourist facilities, including accommodation, restaurants, and local shops, while retaining the feel of an authentic village.
