Pori

Pori is a port town on Finland's west coast, in the Satakunta region, situated at the mouth of the Kokemäenjoki river. Founded in the 16th century, it has retained a historic centre where traditional wooden buildings sit alongside more recent architecture, particularly around the market square and Kirjurinluoto Park, a popular spot for waterside walks. The town is well known for its international jazz festival, one of the oldest in Europe, which draws visitors each summer and adds to the local cultural scene. Nearby, Yyteri beach, with its sand dunes, is a popular natural setting for swimming and outdoor activities during the summer season. Pori has a temperate climate, with mild summers and cold winters typical of southern Finland. The surrounding region, characterised by forests and coastal areas, is well suited to hiking, cycling and exploring the Nordic countryside. The town therefore makes a convenient base for discovering both the industrial and maritime heritage of Finland's west coast and the natural landscapes of Satakunta.
