Hooksiel

Hooksiel is a small coastal village in northern Germany, located in Lower Saxony within the municipality of Wangerland, on the shores of the North Sea. Its character comes from its traditional harbour, still used by a few shrimp fishing boats, and from the Hooksmeer, an inland lake separated from the sea by a dyke, popular for sailing, paddleboarding and calm-water swimming. Recognised as a seaside resort (Nordseebad), the village draws visitors seeking peace and nature, largely thanks to its proximity to the Wadden Sea National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where mudflat walking (Wattwandern) can be enjoyed at low tide. The dyke path running alongside the village offers a pleasant route for walking and cycling, with views over the surrounding polder landscape. Hooksiel lies just a few kilometres from Wilhelmshaven and the neighbouring hamlet of Schillig, which has a sandy beach directly on the open sea. The cool, breezy maritime climate and the village's relaxed atmosphere make it a typical destination in East Frisia, combining maritime tradition with unspoilt nature.
