Dornumersiel

Dornumersiel is a small coastal village within the municipality of Dornum, located in East Frisia on Germany's North Sea coast, in Lower Saxony. This traditional harbour village, enclosed by dykes, lies within the Wadden Sea National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The area is well known for boat trips out to the sandbanks where seals can be spotted, as well as guided mudflat walks (Wattwandern) at low tide. The small fishing harbour still hosts boats catching North Sea shrimp, a local speciality served in the village's restaurants. The beach, sheltered by wooden breakwaters, is suited to swimming and family activities, complete with the region's characteristic wicker beach chairs (Strandkörbe). As a recognised North Sea health resort, Dornumersiel also offers wellness facilities, taking advantage of the sea air valued for its therapeutic qualities. Nearby, the village of Dornum features a historic castle and an old church, adding a cultural dimension to a stay on the coast. The surrounding area is also popular for its cycling routes through polders and the flat, open landscapes typical of East Frisia.
