Glowe

Glowe is a small coastal village on the island of Rügen, in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, on the Baltic Sea. It lies close to Jasmund National Park, famous for its chalk cliffs, including the well-known Königsstuhl, just a short distance away. Glowe stretches along a long sandy beach bordered by the Schmale Heide, a narrow strip of land separating the Baltic Sea from the Grosser Jasmunder Bodden lagoon, making it popular for swimming, sailing and windsurfing. The village retains a simple seaside character, with several restaurants serving fresh fish and regional specialities. The surrounding area is well suited to walking and cycling, with routes leading towards the livelier resorts of Sassnitz and Binz nearby. The climate is typically maritime, with mild summers and cool winters, making spring through autumn the most pleasant seasons to visit. Glowe therefore offers a peaceful base for exploring Rügen's unspoilt landscapes, combining beach, woodland and chalk cliffs, away from the busier tourist centres found elsewhere on the island.
