Breege

Breege is a small coastal village on the Wittow peninsula, in the northern part of the island of Rügen, within the German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Set along the Breeger Bodden, a shallow lagoon connected to the Baltic Sea, it is particularly popular for windsurfing and kitesurfing thanks to consistent wind conditions. The small marina is home to both fishing and leisure boats, and traditional fishing still takes place, with locally smoked fish sold at a handful of stalls. Breege makes a convenient base for reaching Cape Arkona and the village of Vitt by bike or car, both well-known sites at Rügen's northern tip, as well as the town of Altenkirchen. The surrounding landscape features heathland, coastal meadows and reed beds typical of the Bodden shoreline. The Baltic maritime climate brings mild summers and frequent breezes, ideal for watersports as well as long coastal walks. Administratively part of the municipality of Wiek auf Rügen, Breege retains a quiet, rural character, set apart from the busier resort towns elsewhere on the island.
