Waase

Waase is a small village on the island of Ummanz, linked to Rügen by a causeway, on the Baltic Sea coast in the German state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. This hamlet retains a rural, tranquil character, with traditional thatched-roof houses typical of the region and a small fishing harbour overlooking the calm waters of the Breetzer Bodden. Ummanz island is known for its flat, wild landscapes, wet meadows and reed beds, which attract numerous migratory birds, including cranes and wild geese, making the area popular with birdwatching enthusiasts, particularly in autumn. The surrounding countryside is well suited to cycling and walking, with flat paths crossing preserved farmland and coastal scenery. Waase serves as a quiet base from which to explore the western part of Rügen, away from the busier, better-known seaside resorts. The climate is temperate and maritime, with mild summers and cool, windy winters typical of Germany's Baltic coastline.
