Vieste

Vieste is a coastal town on the Gargano peninsula in Puglia, known for its limestone cliffs, coves and Adriatic coastline. The old town, with its narrow white lanes, sits on a promontory overlooking the sea, its Aragonese castle and cathedral bearing witness to its medieval past. Vieste's best-known landmark is the Pizzomunno, a striking limestone monolith standing on the beach of the same name, right in the town centre. The surrounding area offers numerous beaches, such as Vignanotica and San Felice, reachable on foot or by boat, along with sea caves that can be explored on boat trips along the coast. Vieste also serves as a convenient base for exploring the Gargano National Park, with its forests, including the Foresta Umbra, and the traditional villages nearby. Local cuisine focuses on seafood, olive oil and other typical Puglian specialities. The main tourist season runs from May to September, when the Mediterranean climate is well suited to beach and water-based activities.
