Fao

Fão is a small town in northern Portugal, part of the municipality of Esposende, within the Braga district and the historic Minho region. It lies close to the estuary of the River Cávado, not far from the Atlantic coast, in an area shaped by traditional fishing activity and typical Minho agriculture. The village retains an authentic character, with traditional houses and a quiet atmosphere, well away from the bustle of larger seaside resorts. Its proximity to Esposende and the Ofir resort provides easy access to the region's well-known Atlantic beaches, admired for their dunes and pine woodland. The climate is oceanic, with mild summers and rainy winters, typical of Portugal's northern coastline. The area is also known for its simple, flavourful cuisine, based on fish, seafood and local vinho verde. Fão makes a pleasant base from which to explore the Minho region, combining rural heritage, riverside scenery and Atlantic coastline, ideal for a relaxed stay away from the busiest tourist spots.
