Cefalù

Cefalù is a small coastal town on the northern coast of Sicily, in the province of Palermo, set beneath La Rocca, an imposing rock that overlooks the bay and features the remains of an ancient temple along with a hiking trail offering panoramic views over the town and coastline. The historic centre, with its narrow lanes and stone houses, is home to a 12th-century Norman cathedral adorned with Byzantine mosaics, one of the area's most notable landmarks. The seafront, lined with old fishermen's houses built directly on the rocks, adds to the town's picturesque character. The main beach, long and sandy, runs alongside the town centre and draws tourists and families throughout the summer months. Cefalù enjoys a Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild winters. Local cuisine highlights fresh seafood, Sicilian pasta dishes and sweet specialities such as cannoli. The town also serves as a convenient base for exploring other coastal spots and the mountainous Madonie hinterland further inland.
