Caorle

Caorle is a seaside resort in the Veneto region on Italy's Adriatic coast, not far from Venice. Its historic centre, a former fishing village with narrow, colourfully painted streets, features the Cathedral of Santa Maria dell'Assunta with its distinctive cylindrical Romanesque-Byzantine bell tower, along with the Sanctuary of the Madonna dell'Angelo, a striking chapel perched on a small headland exposed to the sea, popular for waterfront walks. The coastline offers long sandy beaches backed by a promenade, dotted with driftwood sculptures placed along the shore. The newer areas of Porto Santa Margherita and Duna Verde add to the resort's appeal, with campsites, holiday apartments and family-oriented villages. The nearby lagoon and fishing harbour reflect the town's maritime heritage, still evident in local cuisine centred on fresh fish and seafood prepared according to regional recipes. Caorle makes a convenient base for exploring the Venetian coast while enjoying a mild Mediterranean climate, well suited to beach holidays from spring through to autumn.
