Umag

Umag is a coastal town in north-western Istria, Croatia, close to the Slovenian and Italian borders. Its old town retains remnants of Venetian fortifications and features a lively marina during the summer season. The town is known for hosting an annual professional ATP tennis tournament, the Croatia Open, which draws international players. The surrounding coastline alternates between pebble beaches and small rocky coves, suitable for swimming and watersports. Umag also serves as a convenient base for exploring other Istrian towns such as Novigrad and Poreč, as well as the Savudrija lighthouse, one of the oldest on the Adriatic, located just a few kilometres away. The region produces olive oil and local wines, reflecting Istria's well-established agricultural tradition. Tourism is well developed here, with numerous campsites and seaside resorts, particularly busy during July and August. The Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers, favours outdoor activities such as cycling along inland routes or sailing along the coast.
