Plovanija Buje

Plovanija is a small hamlet within the municipality of Buje, in north-western Istria, Croatia, close to the Slovenian border. The area is best known for its road border crossing linking Croatia and Slovenia, on the route towards Koper and Trieste. The surrounding landscape is typical of inland Istria, with rolling hills covered in vineyards, olive groves and woodland, and settlement spread across scattered hamlets. Nearby Buje, often called the 'belvedere of Istria' for its hilltop position overlooking the Mirna valley, features a hilltop old town with cobbled lanes, remnants of ancient walls and a parish church visible from afar. The region is well known for its wine, olive oil and truffle production, along with lively local markets. The Istrian coast, including the towns of Umag and Novigrad, lies around twenty minutes away by car, offering beaches and marinas. The climate is Mediterranean, with hot, dry summers and mild winters, making the area well suited to rural tourism and agritourism throughout the year.
