Marciac

Marciac is a village in the Gers department, in the Occitanie region of south-west France, best known for its Jazz in Marciac festival, held every summer since 1978 and drawing music enthusiasts from around the world. The village retains a central square lined with the arcaded houses typical of Gascon bastides, along with a large 19th-century wooden hall used for concerts and local events. Nearby, Lake Marciac offers a pleasant setting for walks, with paths laid out around the water. The surrounding Gascony countryside is characterised by rolling hills, vineyards and arable farmland, ideal for walking or cycling. Marciac also lies at the heart of a region renowned for its gastronomy, with local specialities such as foie gras, armagnac and duck dishes. The mild, sunny Gers climate makes it particularly pleasant to visit during the warmer months. The village serves as a convenient base for exploring the surrounding Gers countryside and the foothills of the Pyrenees, within reasonable reach of both Pau and Tarbes.
