Villasimius

Villasimius is a coastal town in south-eastern Sardinia, in the Province of South Sardinia, roughly 50 km from Cagliari. It is known for its white sandy beaches and turquoise waters, including Porto Giunco, Simius, Campulongu and Spiaggia del Riso, named for its rice-grain-like sand. The Capo Carbonara Marine Protected Area, which encompasses the small Cavoli island and its lighthouse, offers opportunities for diving and snorkelling. Near Porto Giunco, the Notteri lagoon occasionally hosts flamingos, close to a 17th-century Spanish watchtower. The village retains an old fort (Fortino Vecchio) from the same era, now used as a cultural venue. The tourist harbour offers boat excursions and fishing trips. The local economy relies heavily on summer tourism, with seafood restaurants and lively shops during the season. The Mediterranean climate, hot and dry in summer and mild in winter, draws both Italian and international visitors mainly between June and September.
