Cassis

Cassis is a small fishing port in Provence, in the Bouches-du-Rhône department, around twenty kilometres east of Marseille. The town is best known for its proximity to the Calanques, part of the Calanques National Park, with the inlets of Port-Miou, Port-Pin and En-Vau reachable on foot or by boat from the harbour. The Cassis vineyard, home to one of France's oldest appellations d'origine contrôlée, produces well-regarded white wines, often paired with local seafood. The village itself retains a historic core with colourful façades, a Provençal market and a lively harbour lined with fishing boats and pleasure craft. Nearby, Cap Canaille, one of the highest maritime cliffs in Europe, offers views over the bay. The Bestouan and Grande Mer beaches are suitable for swimming in season. Cassis serves as a convenient base for exploring the Provençal coastline, combining hiking, watersports and the discovery of local wine heritage.
