Concarneau

Concarneau, in southern Finistère, is a fishing port town best known for its Ville Close, a fortified 14th-century citadel encircled by ramparts and built on an islet linked to the mainland by footbridges. Its cobbled lanes house shops, crêperies and seafood restaurants, while a walk along the ramparts offers views over one of France's busiest fishing ports, particularly active in tuna and shellfish landings. The fish auction house, where the daily catch is sold, remains a visible part of harbour life. The Marinarium, a marine research centre open to visitors, provides insight into local marine wildlife. The town also has beaches such as Sables Blancs, popular for swimming and watersports. Each summer, the Fête des Filets Bleus celebrates maritime traditions and Breton culture through processions in traditional costume and musical events. The surrounding coastline invites walks along the GR34 coastal path, offering views over the Atlantic Ocean and nearby islands, in a setting typical of the Breton seaboard.
