Vallauris

Vallauris is a town in the Alpes-Maritimes department, located between Cannes and Antibes, close to the Golfe Juan and the Mediterranean coast. The town has long been associated with pottery and ceramics, a craft tradition dating back to Roman times and sustained by the quality of the local clay. Pablo Picasso settled here after the Second World War and produced several works during his time in the town, including the mural "War and Peace", now displayed at the National Picasso Museum, housed in the town's château-museum. The Magnelli Museum and the Ceramics Museum add further cultural interest. The historic centre still hosts numerous working potters' workshops, which visitors can explore while wandering through the town's shopping streets. Vallauris enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate, well suited to outdoor activities throughout the year. Nearby Golfe-Juan offers easy access to beaches and a marina. Given its location just a few kilometres from Cannes, Antibes and Nice, Vallauris makes a convenient base for exploring the French Riviera, while offering a more authentic and less touristy atmosphere than its better-known neighbours.
