Andernos-les-Bains

Andernos-les-Bains is a town on the Arcachon Bay in the Gironde department, valued for its coastal setting between pine forest and shoreline. The town is known for its long wooden jetty stretching out into the bay, a popular spot for watching the sunset and viewing the oyster beds. Oyster farming plays a central role in local life, with a working oyster port and several huts where visitors can sample local oysters. Andernos is also home to a small Romanesque church, Saint-Éloi, among the oldest in the region. The seafront, laid out with a pedestrian and cycle path, connects to other towns around the bay such as Arès and Lège-Cap-Ferret via a well-developed network of cycle routes. The mild oceanic climate favours water sports such as sailing, paddleboarding and kayaking, commonly practised from the main beach. The town's convenient location, close to Bordeaux and the Dune du Pilat, makes it a useful base for exploring the wider region while enjoying a calm, family-friendly coastal setting.
