Bidart

Bidart is a coastal town in the French Basque Country, tucked between Biarritz and Saint-Jean-de-Luz in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department (64210). Perched on cliffs above the Atlantic, it offers fine views over the bay and, on clear days, the Pyrenees beyond. The resort is well known for its surfing: the beaches of Centre, Ilbarritz, Erretegia and Pavillon Royal benefit from consistent swell suited to both beginners and experienced surfers, with numerous surf schools running lessons throughout the year. The village centre, built around the Sainte-Madeleine church and its Basque pelota fronton, retains an authentic feel with flower-lined lanes and traditional houses. A coastal footpath links Bidart to Biarritz for those wishing to walk along the shore, while the Uhabia park provides a greener spot for a stroll. Golf courses and restaurants serving Basque specialities, such as gâteau basque, Bayonne ham and Espelette pepper, round out the local offering.
