Piriac-sur-Mer

Piriac-sur-Mer is a coastal town in the Loire-Atlantique department, located at the tip of the Guérande peninsula, close to Guérande itself and its salt marshes. The old town retains the character of a Breton village, with narrow lanes, stone houses and a small fishing and pleasure-boat harbour. The coastline alternates between rocky coves and sandy beaches, such as Port Piriac and Sables Ronds, all linked by the coastal footpath that runs along the shoreline towards neighbouring towns like La Turballe. The area is shaped by traditional oyster farming and salt production, drawing on the surrounding marshes. The mild oceanic climate brings visitors in summer, while the town remains quieter out of season, popular for walks along the rugged coast. Piriac-sur-Mer makes a convenient base for exploring the Guérande peninsula, combining maritime heritage, coastal nature and easy access to the salt marshes, all while keeping the feel of a genuine small harbour town.
