Grospierres

Grospierres is a village in southern Ardèche, just a few kilometres from Ruoms and Vallon-Pont-d'Arc, at the gateway to the Gorges de l'Ardèche. The old limestone-built village centre is overlooked by the ruins of a medieval castle perched on a rocky outcrop, offering views over the surrounding valley. The region enjoys a Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers well suited to outdoor pursuits. Grospierres is particularly valued for its proximity to the Ardèche river, where canoeing and swimming are popular, as well as for its access to the caves and sinkholes typical of the limestone plateau known as Les Gras. The area has numerous campsites and holiday accommodation, reflecting strong summer tourism. The surrounding countryside also offers walking trails through scrubland, vineyards and oak woods. Vallon-Pont-d'Arc, home to the famous natural arch and the Caverne du Pont-d'Arc, along with Ruoms and its smaller gorges, make for easy day trips from the village. Grospierres remains a well-placed base for exploring the natural and architectural heritage of southern Ardèche.
