La Baule

La Baule is a seaside resort on the Atlantic coast in the Loire-Atlantique department, known for its long sandy beach stretching nearly 8 kilometres and bordered by a pedestrian promenade. The town developed in the late 19th century following the arrival of the railway, which explains the numerous Belle Époque villas found in its residential quarters. The seafront features a casino, hotels and several sports facilities, particularly for tennis and golf, activities long associated with the resort. La Baule also serves as a convenient base for exploring the nearby Guérande salt marshes and medieval town, as well as the Brière Regional Nature Park, both within easy reach. The neighbouring towns of Pornichet and Le Pouliguen add to the coastal offering of the peninsula. A railway station provides a direct link to Nantes, making the wider region easily accessible. The temperate oceanic climate and the sheltered shape of the bay contribute to the area's reputation for mild weather, making it popular for family holidays and water-based activities.
