Solaro

Solaro is a small hilltop village in Haute-Corse, located in the Fiumorbu microregion, just a few kilometres from Ghisonaccia and Corsica's eastern plain. Built into the mountainside, it overlooks a landscape of maquis scrubland and wooded hills, with clear views out to the Tyrrhenian Sea on fine days. The traditional stone architecture, typical of Corsica's mid-mountain villages, defines the settlement, which has remained largely untouched by mass tourism. The surrounding area is well suited to hiking, with trails linking neighbouring hamlets through chestnut and holm oak woodland. The eastern coast is around twenty minutes away, giving access to the long sandy beaches of Ghisonaccia and the plain, such as Pinia, popular for swimming and watersports. Solaro retains a strongly rural character, with farming still practised locally, including livestock and chestnut cultivation. The Mediterranean climate, mild in winter and warm in summer, makes the area suitable for year-round visits, though spring and autumn are particularly favoured for walking. The village offers a quiet base from which to explore both Corsica's mountainous interior and its coastline.
